for a lower center of gravity, 2.2 size crawlers put air soft BBs in the tires. they always go to the bottom, so you have lower center of gravity with very little work. also, for batteries, i would use 2 lithium ions mounted in a serese. for best crawling performance you should mount them as far forward and as low as possible. most larger crawlers have the batteries mounted over or on the front axle case. on an xcrawler, this would mean mounting it right up front where there would be the bumper on a normal truck body. this may not look nice with your body, but it would give you best performance. if you care about the looks, you could either make a little skid plate that goes over the batteries, or if you are willing to give up some performance, you can mount them on top of the front axle case under the hood of the jeep. hope this gave you some helpful info.
