I'm pretty sure Nissan does something similar. My parents have a Sentra, and the only way they found out about a recall on it was when they searched online.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying one car company is better than another, just that they all have had their problems and it's unfair to point to a specific one. Unless you're talking about a Pinto, because they were a little on the extreme side
