Chassis had the "crap beaten out of it" or the motor had the "crap beaten out of it"? If the motor was beaten on, then it'll probably seize anytime now if it's not already seized. If you want to pay $175 on what will probably be a parts chassis, then, you may want to think about it.
But, I haven't seen it (chassis) or the condition the motor is in. If you find it's in a good working order and is worth the $175 to you, then you should probably pick it up.
