My first body work
I decided to start to do some body work on my old scion. Feel free to give me tips or advice. This is a little side-project i'm doing so it might take a little while.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...2/DSC08204.jpg I sprayed some old blue paint just to see how much more work i need to do. (this is not going to be the final color). http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...2/DSC08205.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...2/DSC08210.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...2/DSC08211.jpg As you can see, i still need to do alot of sanding. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...2/DSC08215.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...2/DSC08219.jpg Your thoughts? |
will it be a wide body, any pictures of what you hope your final product to look like?

I started work on the rear bumper.

And should I use the Gt-r spoiler? http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...2/DSC08233.jpg |
Looking good so far, go for the spoiler. Try and sand down some putty to make it neater.
The rear bumper is too low IMO. Keep it up ;) |
Overall its looking pretty good the Scion has a really easy bodykit to work with so for a first time it was a good choice.
The thing to remember about making a kit like this is that the car should sit even when the front and rear bumpers are screwed in and the shell is placed on a flat surface, if the car is tilting more one way than the other then your custom bodykit isn't even and the car is going to look a little strange once its on the chassis. In your pictures the shell looks pretty even so I'd say the length of your front and back additions are pretty much identical. Keep working with the putty and smoothing things out then post a few photos of it sitting on a chassis. |
not a bad job so far...looks pretty good...imo when using putty i usually put the tip of the putty container as close to the car as possible and using side to side motion when applying or just put some on my finger and spread it across where i am putting the the putty...i try to put putty on in thin layers and build up to what i need....but you are doing pretty good for your first time...the rear bumper extension you have in the middle of your bumper looks a little wavy...but all in all it looks good...keep up the work....

Did even more work on the rear bumper. And it is now on a chassis, I also added the spoiler.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...2/DSC08294.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...2/DSC08295.jpg Sanded and painted the front bumper but it still needs more sanding and paint. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...2/DSC08297.jpg It sits really close to the ground. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...2/DSC08298.jpg After I finish the bumpers i'm gonna make the body more wide. |
that's kinda rough atm
but lookin' good |
Let me recommend Testors lexan body paints that I tried this weekend for when you paint this sucker. Get some pearl or candy color and it'll easily rock.
