2.4ghz asf vs regular ma-010

i was wondering if the control/quality of these is better than the standard ma-010, or if its just the auto selecting frequency thats better?

also, anyone know where to get the 2.4ghz set? i found 1 on ebay but dont trust ebay too much and dont see any on atomicmods...

(does this have everything i need other than body/batteries?)

thanx guys, still learing these Z's!

I don't know a lot about Z's, but what I have heard is that the control and response is much better w/ a 2.4ghz over the regular AM. If you get a nice Helio's controller, you can adjust a lot of settings. The only thing I have heard that is bad is that there is a delay in reverse. Not sure how bad it is, but everyone says you get used to it. I am gonna be upgrading my AWD to the 2.4ghz this summer. If the wife will let me, lol.

Well, if you have a club near you and want to race seriously, I would recommend the 2.4ghz set. I have had 3 asf cars, two current ones, and they are awesome. You will need a kt-18 to run the set, but you could upgrade to an ex-1UR or the helios.
The 2.4ghz is more responsive and has no glitches. The reaction time is about 1/2 of the reaction time of 27mhz version. The 27mhz version glitches (mine never did but lots of people have glitches). My am car was not up to par at all.... the steering and throttle response was so bad it was as if I turned my settings down on purpose. The asf boards have a .2s reverse delay. If you are constantly having to use reverse this might be irritating, but you have to get used to the fact. I ran a modified 2.4ghz mr02 yesterday and I had to keep using reverse.
I was recommended the KO Propo EX-1UR over the EX-10 Helios, but the Helios is still a very nice transmitter.

2.4 is more responsive. The reverse lockout is annoying. I've heard of people adjusting helios to reduce the reverse lockout. Also, 2.4 comes with 2x2 stacked Fets. It can run hot motors right out the box! I'd like to have 2.4 but my budget won't allow it right now. WHen I was racing at one event my car kept glitching at a certain corner, you bet I wish I had 2.4 then.

Since when does the 2.4 comes with the 2x2 stacked FETs?

i can't help much, but i can suggest e-mailing atomic-mods some ppl say they don't reply, but they've always replied to me within a day or two.

SkylineLvr 03-01-2009 02:36 PM

I believe that the 2.4 have a stack on top and on the bottom of the board. That is equivalent to a 2x2 stack

Dr. Kustom 03-01-2009 02:55 PM

That's kool! I have never know that, lol.

Thats correct, they use 3010 FETs.

dontspamme 03-01-2009 03:10 PM

They shouldn't have a 2x2. The other pair your looking at is probably for the servo or the forward/reverse FETs.

I have little knowledge in this area, but I know it's not a 2x2.

XMDrifter 03-01-2009 03:23 PM

they aren't stacked. it's a double sided board that has 4 motor fets. those arent' steering fets. a 2.4 board has 4 fets on 1 side and 2 fets on the other
and you can get the 2.4asf board at RCKenon (rckenon.com), EGRmart (egrracing.com), and other places that sell mini-z things. reflex racing also is a good source. dunno if they have the 2.4asf kit.

any1 know if that ebay listing that i linked is complete, with everything i need other than body/batteries?

dontspamme 03-01-2009 03:34 PM

Yep, it's complete. Thats all you need to run 2.4ghz, except the batteries and body.

XMD, well, I tried. But hey! I got half of it correct!

94exa2 03-01-2009 03:54 PM

ok, i just noticed that atomic does have the 2.4ghz chasis(need to buy transmiter seperatly)....

would u suggest the perfex kt-18 tx? (i dont need a $300 helios as the only rc experience i have is with xmods and dont race, cept everynow and then with friends)

2wdpancar 03-01-2009 05:43 PM

You guys........by stack people mean there are 4 fets. All four are for the drive motor.....two on top and two on bottom for less heat damage.
Sign up at mini-zracer.com and make a want to buy thread for a kt-18. Most people have sold theirs a long time ago, but a few are still out there. They typically run for $40-50 shipped. Anything above that you might as well buy brand new.
The 4 fets act as a 2x2 stack of 3010 fets. Just different locations like the micro-t board

Action B 03-04-2009 11:39 AM

I knew they were on opposite sides of the board. I wasn't trying to get too technical in this thread due to the original question.

2wdpancar 03-05-2009 01:01 AM

I was sure you knew that .... I was generally clarifying the dual sided fet setup for everyone
