xmod canuck mini z garage

So I finally got an AWD Mini-Z, but I kind of went all out for my first one. And I don't think anyone will be surprised by which body I picked. I was going to get the readyset, but I found a shop where I got the chassis with the multi-offset wheels and the body for less than most places are selling the ready set. So for less money I got the multi-offset wheels as well.

http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods299.jpg

And as soon as it came out of the box, on went the Team Atlas rims.

I noticed that you have wide rims on front and rear, do they rub at all ?

The body looks great, but somethings missing. Not sure what, but something is. Can't wait till you make it POP and me drool.

Yeah, the rears are +2.5 and the fronts are +1.5 and with the atomic tires they do rub a little, but I haven't tried the v-tread tires yet as the have very rounded edges compared to the square edge atomics. I may have to find some +1.0's or +0.5's to fit better. And I'm not sure what you think might be missing but I'm not changing anything on it as I love it the way it is. I might even get one in black one day.

Thanks man. I wanted one for a long time before I finally had enough saved up to get it. I can't wait to get my controller so I can take it for a spin.

dontspamme 11-03-2009 12:28 AM

I never tried any Mini-Z tires so I have no idea what your talking about ! But holy wide STi, I would have assumed their 0.5W and 1.5W. But ****...

It's hard to explain, you know the feeling where you see something and you go "OMG ! That STi is awsome, how the body curves perfectly and such" Rather then "Wow, nice STi" Hope you understand what I'm trying to jab at. Maybe it's the pictures ? Or I'm just use to seeing them in blue.

xmodcanuck 12-06-2009 03:25 PM

Well there was a bit of a wait, but it was worth it. I can finally take my Z for a spin.

I'm honestly not sure what I'm going to do with this part, but it was such a great price to get the package that I almost bought 2 of them.

http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods343.jpg

All paired up and ready for a spin.

And let me say after a short spin around the house, I will be getting another one one day.

I love this car. Where did you get those wheels at? I need something like that for my Z. Also, I'd be interested in purchasing the board if your considering selling. I want to convert my car to 2.4. PM me if your interested and we can hopefully work something out.

Skv012a 12-06-2009 04:58 PM

B, if you can/want to trace a fet pad ona 2.4 board, I can sell you one I have cheap (bought it cheap to maybe try and fix it, but never ended up trying to).

As far as this AWD, get some drift tires and you're SET.

The wheels are Team Atlas. I liked the rims so much I got them before I even had a Z. I finally got proper offsets for the front so I could drive with them

First - proper offset in the front.

I wasn't interested in that body, but now I want one... I love the final car with the white rims and blue nuts. Very nice.

I wanted this car the minute I first saw one. If you've seen my other garage you know I kind of have a thing for Subaru's, so when I saw this one I knew I had to have one. One day I might even have a black one and if they ever come out with a Ken Block Monster Energy version, I'll be all over that. And the white rims just had to happen. I think they are 2nd only to bronze/gold te37's.

I recently got a package with some stuff in it. This was one of the things in the package. It was used, but barely. And it came with some nice extras - bearings, cf t-plate, extra wheels/tires. I bought it off a fellow rc nut who I have bought many items from in the past.

Apparently it also came with alloy motor spacers and stainless kingpins. And there was a little something extra for my AWD as well.

http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods400.jpg

And it's funny that I ended up buying the mr-02 because I bought this from him too thinking that one day I would modify it for a XMODS body. I have to lower it though, it sits way too high.

Well, the GT sat way too high so I cut out the front clip and shaved out about 1mm.

Before.
http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods410.jpg
After.
http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods413.jpg

I think the previous owner was going to convert this into a XMODS body so the side clips were already cut out so I shaved the ridges they rest on about 5mm.

Before.
http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods411.jpg
After.
http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods412.jpg

The result...mush less wheel well gap and a more level body.

:( ??No love for the GT??

I guess there's a slight difference with how the Z bodies and iwaver bodies mount to the chassis. The stock offset for the GT is 0N and 2W. I figured with the clearance the front was right but that I could go wider in the rear so I got these...

http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods437.jpg
http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods438.jpg

And these to fine tune the handling a little.

Thanks. It's an Iwaver body and I think that is why it sat so high.

I've gotten some stuff recently.

Some new/used rims.
http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods458.jpg
A truck load of tires.
http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods459.jpg
http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods460.jpg
Almost 200 bearings for mini-z and xmods!!!
http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods461.jpg

And my all time favorite wheels were finally made into alloy versions for the AWD. I bought some before Christmas but they never arrived so I got a refund and the only other places I found with them for sale were more money and the one place that had the bronze wides were twice the price. Well they dropped their prices and matched a competitors price so I got narrow and wide in bronze and silver. They aren't the perfect offset for my current Subaru, but when I get another chassis they will be perfect for my blue WRX.

Thanks, I didn't think I would like the FXX much, but in person it's pretty awesome. And I traded a bunch of x-truck stuff for it.

I got this for super cheap. Now I need to get some paint.
http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods511.jpg

And I wasn't planning on buying many upgrades for my Z's, but these groups of upgrades were bidding for obscenely cheap, so I placed my bids and won 3 lots. All for about 1/4 regular price. And I'm still waiting for two more lots with about 60 upgrades total in them.

Some wheels, bearings, lock nuts, and these silly wheel lights.
http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods506.jpg

A BUNCH of knuckles.
http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods507.jpg

Tires, springs, shims, bearings, motor mounts.
http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods508.jpg

Diffs and gears.
http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods509.jpg

And my favorites - PN rear mounts and Atomic SAS.

And I know there's an empty package here, but it wasn't when I got it.

http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods521.jpg

***EDIT***
Somehow I forgot about this package of goodies.
http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods530.jpg

The same day I got the biggest package I went to a nearby mini-z track for my first time. (http://www.minirc.ca/forums/showthread.php?t=650) It's a pretty big track and privately owned, not funded by a hobby store like I think most are. So I raced around the track a bunch and had a pretty big crash that resulted in this.......
http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods515.jpg

I had quickly looked in the box when I got it and saw the alloy knuckles, so I was able to replace them and keep running. I got pretty dirty racing.....

http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods522.jpg
http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods523.jpg

So I gave it a wash.

http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods524.jpg
http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods525.jpg

All shiny and clean and ready to race again.

And finally, it all came in a Kyosho bag so I can travel in style to the races.

any stockers left around?

cowboysir03 06-28-2010 01:33 AM

Be sure to bring that badboy with you next weekend and we'll scuff it up good against my 430gt awd.

Consider a few things first:
1 set up some narrow front rims. You'll have way too much grip with wide fronts and you'll oversteer all over the place

2 I'm not quite sure which hardness tire you have on there but you should try medium rather than soft or super soft. Grip is much higher with AWD and soft tires force oversteer and even traction rolling.

3 bring it in a soft suspension setup. My track is "bumpy" from the driveway layout and you'll need ut to be compliant over the imperfections.

Looking forward to next weekend!

xmodcanuck 06-28-2010 09:33 PM

Thanks for the tips Cowboy. I've heard that a lot about wides on the front of the AWD. I just had them up front for goofing around the house. I noticed I had a lot of clearance with my +2.5 fronts and wanted to see if I could go wider up front with more offset, that's all. I'm pretty sure I can fit +3.5 up front. Normally I have atomic 20 in the rear and I think 30 in the front. I'll be sure to set it up with softer springs. I just looked up and found that the whites are pretty hard. Can't wait to do some racing this weekend.:D

cowboysir03 06-29-2010 02:16 AM

Ryan has all the travel info so i think we're good to go...

I cant remember which offsets i have on my F430Gt (2.5 front/3.5rear?) but the fitment is real nice. Im hoping you might have a few sets of plastics to bring with you so i can tape up some new tires for different bodies. The f430 is really edgy (and so is that F360GT,btw) so Im looking at trying something like an NSX on it.

We'll most likely have a couple catagories but it isnt going to be too rigid...Kirby and I mostly dial back our endpoints to match slower cars and inexperienced drivers(which there might be a couple, not sure)

xmodsNSX94 07-07-2010 05:29 PM

Thanks. It all depends on how much you want to spend. Just google Kyosho Mini-z or search it on ebay. I went straight for the 2.4ghz which is the more expensive route, but you can get use AM ones with radios for pretty cheap. For racing try a MR-02, for goofing around the house get a AWD.
And it might look like a lot of dollars if I bought everything new and at retail, but the most expensive package was the last one (fully optioned mr-02) and it was about 1/3 or less the price of buying new. And the other upgrades I got in lots for way less than retail/ebay.

Like this lot of goodies. (I paid way less than half 'retail') And I know one package is empty, that is the Kyosho front one-way diff that is already in my other AWD chassis.
http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods597.jpg

And my newest toy.

http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/r...k/xmods579.jpg

My blue Subaru finally has its own chassis. And the best part is the S2000 clip works perfect on the STI body, so when I go racing I can just switch bodies. You know, so I don't smash up the beautiful STI.:) That would make me:cry:

:o Rich boy, thats like over $2k. I would rather get something bigger with that money like a HPI Baja 5T :) Nice cars though, but I think you have more upgrades than you can use them on the few cars you have

WTF Rich boy??? No way. Try hard working man. I have a full-time good paying job (at one point I had 2 jobs and worked 80 hours 7 days a week) I own my own home, 2 cars and my wife is a full time stay at home mom. This is my hobby and one day my boys will be old enough to enjoy it with me.
And $2k - maybe if I bought them at 'retail price', but since I only bought one AWD chassis full price, the rest I bought cheap I would say about 1/3 that price.

Thanks for the manly support. And there's no need to go ninja. You can find a used am mini-z for pretty cheap.

They can be used by grinding the d shaped shaft on one side on the xmod stubs by using a dremel.

Most of the tires I got in a huge lot. The majority of the rims I got from Japan, so shipping to UK would be the same. You can use them on xmods like cryo says. I bet there's a tut somewhere about how to do it.
As for the actual mini-z, there must be some listed on ebay uk. It seems to me that mini-z is more popular in UK than here in Canada. Just keep looking.
