UPDATES

UPDATE#1

in the beginnin'
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/PICT0028.jpg

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/PICT0026.jpg

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/PICT0031.jpg

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/PICT0033.jpg

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/PICT0013.jpg

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...s/S7300630.jpg

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...s/S7300631.jpg

and that's where it sits as of today.
i've still got a few things to do like mod the rear bumper to get rid of the camaro lights(thanks zippo for the hookups) and some minor shaping/smoothing.
i havn't made up my mind completely about the paint and details yet but it's deffinately going to be "mile deep black" with a few firebird traits here and there.
i'm thinking possibly blacking out the entire car except for a few key points and decals.....IDK though.
any ideas?

cheers,
Smoky in the Sally Field

UPDATE#2
i finally got around to putting down another coat of primer for filling/sanding.
thought i'd post a pic so you can see it in all black.
these will probably be the last pics you'll see until the new goodies show up to finish off the bodywork and additions.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/S7300704.jpg

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/S7300705.jpg

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/S7300706.jpg

cheers,
Camarjoe

UPDATE#3
well,good news and bad news.
the good news is my parts are all here.
the bad news is i can't use the ones i bought a whole kit for.
i was going to use the headlights and wheels from this kit but come to find out, their plated in gold and bigger then what i already have.
looks like i'll be building another T/A model...:D
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/S7300712.jpg
it would have been helpful if they would have had a picture of the front of the box in the ad.......
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/S7300714.jpg

zippo hooked me up with some parts that i CAN use though;)......thanks bud:rockon2:
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/DSCN0874.jpg
with a bit of cutting and sanding.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/DSCN0875.jpg

here's a couple shots to give perspective of the outcome.
i still have a good bit of putty work ahead of me so the rear bumpers going to look a bit different then now.
in the end it should be close to this.
http://www.namc.us/forums/attachment...challenger.jpg
but here's where it's at now.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/DSCN0877.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/DSCN0879.jpg

gotta love the hood tach.
those really should have made a comback.
cheers until the putty dries.

UPDATE#4

i kicked the lights out at an angle to help with the transition and knocked the deck lid back some.
i also relocated and sank the gas lid.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/DSCN0907.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/DSCN0908.jpg
since these pics i've knocked the decklid back even farther and added a third brakelight under it.

what are your thoughts on black base and this color blue?
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ackground1.jpg
thanks again guys

UPDATE#5
the work on this one has been pretty slow since i have a bunch of paint projects going and eating up space but i did manage to get another coat of putty on and sanded on the rear bumper.
i threw some more black on to help ya'll see the shape of it.
it doesn't show it very well in the pics but there's a 45* step between the two 90*'s so it's not just a hard 90* angle.
i've still got some tidy'ing up to do but this is the basic shape.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/DSCN0945.jpg

i've also changed up the hood.
the higher cowl still looked more camaro-ish so i chopped up an old model car seatback and made a more firebird like scoop for it but that will have to wait until the next update.;)

cheers,

UPDATE#6
so i'm going through Ebay the other day looking for scale misc. for future projects and what do i see?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWNX:IT
SONOFAB!TCH!!

anyways, work has been real slow on this one due to the past buildoff and arranging the sale for surgeon..........and the fact that one of my beagle pups got ahold of the rear bumper.......:gun5:
it WAS looking pretty good for awhile.
i had the updates all ready to go and she said "%^$# THAT!"...nog..nog..nog...

so here's where it sits.
i got the "mica blue" on and the "mile deep black" and sanded/primed the bumper.
the hood is blue simply because i had a bit of the blue left and said screw it....it's not like i'm losing detail there...
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/DSCN1253.jpg
here's some of the damage.
it isnt too bad, luckily i got it away from here before she could tear it up too bad. since this pic i've puttied the corners back in.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/DSCN1254.jpg

once i get the bumper squared away(again..), this project should be finished shortly after.

cheers,
UPDATE#7

if it would have been the whole car then iwould have junked it.....or stomped it....then junked it..

from where it's at now,i can go ahead and finish out the rest of it and worry about the bumper when it gets here.

here's the damage.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/S4010005.jpg

here's todays forward progress.
the kit that the headlights came from had lenses at one point but hell if i know where they are so with the help of my straight rule and some upgrade kit plastic,i made new ones.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/S4010008.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/S4010010.jpg
aluminum tubing for the headlights(....oooh, fancy...)
i'm waiting for the superglue to dry and then i can tidy it up and repaint it.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/S4010009.jpg

thanks again guys,

UPDATE#8

i got the decals on yesterday.
it's a bit dirty and some spots were sanded down but it will be fixed shortly.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...S4010005-1.jpg

and today i got the PE parts painted and some of them laid in.
this bird marks the return of the 421(sidebadge) :rockon2:
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/S4010015.jpg

cheers,

UPDATE#9
i finally started round #3 on the rear bumper and the end of this car is in sight.:dh)
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/DSCN1811.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/DSCN1879.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/DSCN1885.jpg
more to come soon;)
UPDATE#10
thanks guys, it feels good to put in some work again.
now i'm starting to wish i had more time to finish this one up.

got it all smooth and ready for paint.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/DSCN1887.jpg
i'm hoping to get it painted by the end of the day then all that's left is to wetsand and reclear the rest of the shell, get the chassis/wheels squared away and work the fiber optics for the lights.

cheers,

UPDATE#11
well, i was hoping to get the bumper fully painted but the best i could do was a solid basecoat.
one thing that's been bothering me from the start was the lack of spoiler.
i think i fingerred it out...

this was the original plan.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/S7300705.jpg
but, in a rare move on my part i sided with the masses and realised that it does'nt fit as nicely as i previously thought so i ditched it and havn't thought about it until now.
what i wanted was something similar to this.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...ix/z28/z28.jpg
though it's on a camaro, that spoiler is from a '92 formula and what i wanted for this was that same shape but i wanted it to follow the(newly created) curve of the 2010.
i found the shape i was looking for in the form of a GT-r spoiler...
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/DSCN1933.jpg
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...m/DSCN1935.jpg
i'm suprised at how well this spoiler fits the shape of the car.
it has the F-body feel to it with the hard lines of a late model.
BTW,it's not going to sit that high....by no means.
those pics were just a rough fitting,it should be sitting flush soon enough.

tune in tomorrow, same stupid time, same stupid channel...

I know the answer, but i will respect what you said i your post & i will keep my mouth shut.

Hope the project turns out the way you want it too. :D

bondo 07-07-2009 10:34 AM

thanks brain, i appreciate it.

wizard0ne0 07-07-2009 01:28 PM

hmmm, ill take a guess, i believe i see gpm screws as opposed to radioshack ones so i am going to say a full gpm car, its a camaro so you are probably going to keep it rwd, seeing the extensive body mods I will guess again that you will have at least 1 light kit on it, if your going gpm then you may also go lithium, although lithium and rwd is an unusual combination as for the body perhaps you are trying for a modernized knight rider? certainly would be interesting

Lucky7 07-07-2009 01:44 PM

If what I think is right the ****** are a dead giveaway.

xmod noob 07-07-2009 01:44 PM

all i am going to say is it`s going to be something special from what ive seen of it already good luck with the rest of the build

mr.hotrod 07-07-2009 02:00 PM

ITS A.... *bondo sneaks up behind, knocks me unconsious like a ninja*
but man that is gonna be TIGHT:lol:

imnotmikal 07-07-2009 02:53 PM

You spelled "sleeve" wrong.
Just saying.

Looking forward to this.

Stampedekid 07-07-2009 05:23 PM

Not sure what it'll be but I have a feeling I'm gonna like it!

supraboi97 07-07-2009 05:39 PM

I know what it is but i'm not going to say.

the chassis is one that i threw the shell on for pics and building.
i had to swipe it from another car because i can't find my EVO's..........:uhoh:

FWIW, knight rider was a firebird and mustang(:puke_r: on the mustang version) but thanks for being the only one to take a stab at the particular reason for this build.;)

hopefully you won't be disappointed.

is that it guys?
nobody has a guess as to why i'm building this?
if you're sharp enough then there is enough info in this thread already to point you in the right direction........you just have to look for it...:bigwink:

cheers,
macncheese with peanutbutter

supraboi97 07-07-2009 05:42 PM

I will say it if you want me to. Or you could have everyone else keep guessing.

winner 07-07-2009 05:46 PM

omg! i got it! your gunna transform the 2009 camaro in to the 2010 camaro!!!!

that's kind of the point......

people try to guess what it is or they have to wait until it's finished to find out.
if nobody cares then nobody cares.....i just thought it would be fun to put another new spin on a project thread.

@winner, nope, not the 2010 camaro.
the only reason that's in the thread is because there is no real "'09 camaro" like ratshack wants you to belive.

The way I look at it, as long as the concept was pushed back they should call it the "2003 Camaro". It's sad when a car comes out and your immeadiately bored and ready for a new bodysyle.

winner 07-07-2009 06:03 PM

wait is this gunna be a top secret project but we dont kno that it is and u want us to guess that its top secret?

amen to that.
i still like the bodystyle and all but it feels like there should be a new one already.
ford is already on their second rendition of their retro throwback and here's chevy just now releasing theirs after hyping it for 4 years.

you're supposed to guess the secret.(the reason for building)
as soon as you do,you get updates.
and i would'nt really call it "top secret" since there's already a handful of people that know about it.

.

When I see a black or silver one, I still think it looks kind of cool...but the yellow does nothing for me... Many manufactures promote and hype their cars 4 years out, but the body is generally a lot different when it is released...this hasn't evolved at all in the process.

even the red ones still look spiffy.......and i've owned so many red cars that i now hate the color.
but yea,for the most part the MFCR's produce a "concept" and then show it at various events to get a general idea of the consumers opinion and makes adjustments from there.
GM took their concept and marketed the rights off before they even showed it to the public.........then squatted on it for a few years while ford cornered a dying market.
highlighting a production concept in a major motion picture negates any chance for change in developement.
people want what they saw in the pics and movie.
and now everyone is going to want that aftermarket BK for 2010.

XmodzICON82 07-07-2009 07:53 PM

i was looking at camaro's earlier and the only thing i can come up with based on your teaser pic is either the lingenfelter camaro, or the fesler/moss limited edition camaro...i chose those based on your skill with modifying the shell of any xmod or model body...but i'm sure i'm wrong...
