Xmod Semi Truck-6 wheeler 4WD

I know the body is just a box made from foam board-but you gotta admit it is sorta cute in a cartoon way? Anyway, the chassis is made from TWO rear gearboxes from Xmod Evo cars and both are powered by stage 1 RS motors. Battery power comes from two 650mah Lithium Ion 14430 size cells. Control is with a stock Evo circuit board. Front assembly is from an Xmod Evo car as well. The ladder type frame is made from two sizes of plastic square stock available at most Hobby shops or Hobby Town. An interesting feature of my design is that it is adjustable for length because of a telescoping feature. The tires are part# 70101 Tamiya Truck tires. They fit over stock xmod car rim and tire assemblies with double sided tape to build up the diameter. Anyway, this truck is really fun to drive and though I check out all the Xmod forums, I haven't seen anything like this....but I could be wrong? If I find a proper sized cab from a toy truck I will mount that for a more professional look. http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_MJMxrlzYjU...ruck+back1.jpg

BulletsRain 01-31-2009 06:42 PM

haha that is awesome! Really nice work there man. Are those tires pretty soft, and do you know if they are bigger than aoshima super swampers?

diymod 01-31-2009 06:44 PM

Thanks everyone...
No the tires aren't bigger than the super swampers...couldn't tell you how "soft" they are, but they really don't work that great on crawlers-but they do look cool and they are cheap.
Thanks,
Mike

Oh alright, thanks. ;)

Anyways, very interesting design, the body is kind of cool. just need to make the trailer part:)

Haha. I have to agree with you, Mike, the cab does look cute in a cartoonish way. Awesome job on the whole project, once again! ;)

You must'nt forget Gyrate, by the way; I believe he's the one that started it all on XMW. ;)

Cheers,
Kyle.

You guys are also forgetting b1gdude and his b1g r1g.

That is VERY cool diymod, digging that alot.

xmodzracer 01-31-2009 08:53 PM

thats who it was! B1gdude! that the one i was thinking of...

bigez 01-31-2009 10:31 PM

that is cool what you should do is do that to a truck chassis and use two hs55 for motors and turn it in to a crlawer that would be cool

lol 01-31-2009 10:38 PM

Ahh. Gyrate... XMW... good times... The Truck seems to be too big.

kendallcschm 02-01-2009 06:45 AM

awesome project... i was gonna do something similar.. but no funds....

diymod 02-01-2009 09:49 AM

Thanks everyone. I hope I can find those previous projects posted somewhere. Yes, I think this could be a really cool crawler project if it was designed a little different. Making it 6wheel drive would be real cool and having both rear pods articulate....
Anyway, I hope to find a premade truck cab for it at some point, I am not one who really enjoys the cosmetics of a project, more into the chassis and making the thing actually work and perform. Wish I could make a video of this thing in action...it actually hauls *** and I even can drift it to some degree!

fiberworkz 02-01-2009 10:17 AM

Here is the B1G R1G.

But IMO you have a cooler looking chassis than any of the other trucks. Very nice work!

diymod 02-01-2009 12:15 PM

Thanks for the link to that project. What a nice and time consuming conversion. I still would have done the dual motor thing, though the board would have to be fitted with fets to be able to handle the current required to turn those big diameter wheels...and might actually have been easier than fitting the 4wd shaft.
Thanks!

wasn't really around during xmw.:( I still looked on there for tuts, and stuff, etc, but i didn't have an account, or wasn't this much into xmods at the time. But now i am:p I should look for that, you guys are right, i almost forgot about b1g's semi...

trying to turn this into a crawler would be sweet.

texan_idiot25 02-01-2009 12:24 PM

Absolutely excellent work, and I'm diggin' the frame. Though I'd build a smaller, more scale looking body.

diymod 02-01-2009 05:13 PM

Thanks Texan! You are right, and someone else mentioned it....I gotta make a smaller body or find one....went to Walfart and their toy section just didn't have anything that would work. I may make another smaller foam board cab with a little better detail and/or continue my search for a cheap toy truck body. Down here in GA there are also Hobby Lobby craft stores, but they are closed on Sundays, I will check their model section.....I have scored some nice Aoshima models on clearance there...maybe they have an appropriate scaled semi model.
