Putting bigger tire on trucks so they wont rub
I just got a nisan titan and i bought dome irok super swampers. well the seller i bought the truck from gave me bigger tire and they rub on the chassis. I want to know if theres a way to widen the trucks axles or what i can do to make the tires fit especially when i get the iroks. Thanks
|
There is an extended axle stub mod for that.. Or i like to double the rim in the irok.. Im on a cell phone...so.. When im on the computer again ill post some links to both.
|
Ok, here is a link to my truck... this mod has the Swamper rims on it, I drilled a hole thru the middle to reach the lock nut. On the back side of the rim I super glued a stock Xmod truck rim to it. (just look good at the photos) I like this way better because the xmod rim makes it a lot more stable and less woble then the axle stub extension mod. Just use some strong super/ca glue and let it cure for a day or two before messing with it.. also sand the contact surfaces good before glueing.
http://www.xmodsource.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15034 Here is the axle stub extension mod.. also good, you decide which way you want to go. http://www.xmodsource.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12765 |
thanks man ill put up pics once i get it finished
|
ok so i was gonna try the axle extension, but even doing that i still think the tires will rub because they wont reach the rims. Im using the black rims from the xmod kit. i tried gluing two of the black rims together but i think it would look retarded becase the inside rim will have the wheel nut and the outside one wont. idk if u cant understand ill post pics. lmk what u think! thanks

Anyway. I use PLASTRUCT Plastic Weld (General Purpose Plastic solvent cement) You can use regular super glue (Krazy) or get med, strong CA glue from your LHS |
Lock tite super glue works great for this application, I have used it and been running the same set up for almost a year.
|
ok so would regular super glue like the thin liquid one or would u say the gel would be better? thanks
|
either or.. I use the Krazy glue with the brush.. sand the two sides that will attach together a little, then put some glue on both sides, let it set for about 15 seconds or so, then attach them.. put somthing on top of them for some pressure to hold them together.. leave over night. The next day, coat the seem where the parts were glued togther with a coat of super glue. let dry again over night.. and BAM..

sounds like a plan! thanks again I really appreciate the help

@XXX,if you're looking for a foolproof way to mount the rims then do something like this.
http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...p/DSCN1098.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...p/DSCN1097.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...p/DSCN1096.jpg http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...p/DSCN1095.jpg no need to put a hole in the pretty rim and no glueing needed. completely removable, fully functional and oh so pretty...:bigwink: http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f3...p/DSCN1154.jpg screws won't fail over time like CA glue and if your bearings crap out you simply remove the screws and the wheels come apart. use the aluminum rims and you have a truly worry free combo. if you align the 4 screws directly across from each other and count the turns on the screws it will self center and you won't have to balance the tire. the only catch is that you have to be able to fit the Xmod rim inside the "pretty"rim. |
wow that's nice, maybe I'll try that too
