XXX: Modders Convention

Hey guys, Im inviting serious experienced modders to discuss the future of modding. It is new and inventive ideas and mods that keep our hobby alive, and keep us happy and excited. So I am hoping we can discuss technique and ideas. What are some great mods that haven't been figured out yet, or haven't been done in a satisfactory way that we could improve on or create. A collective of minds together could bring us to the next level, as we have been stuck doing some of the same old mods for the last 3 years or so. We could also discuss parts and hardware we are using and where to get it. Only serious comments and ideas, please.

I am very excited to see what comes from the discussion and start working together to bring some great new mods, hop-ups and upgrades to our hobby.

Happy Modding,
XXX

i know this may sound far-fetched, but a buddy actually was talking to me about making a gas engine conversion, i wonder if thats possible? i thought that could be a good idea, just wanted to post it up =P or making some sort of computerized traction control and weight management. that would be revolutionary!

XXX, your new services are sure to spark up some more projects. For example, your servo adapter is a great idea and makes that mod much cleaner and easier to complete. All we need to do now, in that instance, is to fabricate a replacement servo housing that can be used for custom servos. It's a shame that the stock evo servo casing is required for the front gearbox.

brettly, I don't think a gas engine conversion would be very useful or practical if even possible on this scale.

There is one out there, and there actually was a thread about it here at XMS if I remember right. The biggest problem is it wouldn't be able to hold enough fuel to drive more then a few minutes.

Im actually in the process of doing one. It has been my sitting project for a couple years. I just hope it comes to fruition soon. It is actually a replacment servo case, but holds a JR micro servo and would be a direct replacement for the part. Im also working on a decal covering for the servo pod, that is chrome vinyl.. with all the sections of it laser cut, for peel and place, Just like a sticker covering for a DSi or somthing.

Great, can't wait to see what you have in store, no pun intended  .

If you can get vinyl's the same color as your liths that you recently began selling, I'd purchase one the second of it's release. That grey just looks so ugly, especially with a fully GPM'd car.

hmm this might sound kinda crazy.. but, what about a micro esc/receiver unit that handles both brushed and brushless and maybe it can also handle 3s? will be kinda hard, but if it can be done.. we will be all RICH! then sell that design to Losi or Kyosho.. cause atm kyosho and losi are the only ones that make hobby grade small r/c cars.. if you can make a great esc/receiver unit that works with brushed and brushless.. maybe even make it 2.4ghz with spektrum tx's.. imagine the cash flow we would get =O

I think a universal front clip would be interesting. Think about it your doing a model conversion or you lost a clip for your body. You can adjust it accordingly. Or a kit that would make your car into a drag car like it would add length to the front so it would be longer. Or a cf truck chassis all the focus has been on the car chassis but I have not seen a full on cf or alloy truck chassis that you can just swap stuff over like you do with cars.

I think that would be impossible due to the nature of a brushed and a brushless motors esc. The brushed only requires 2 wires + and -. The brushless requires 3 I think its + - and one for sensing where the rotor is or something. It would be sick but It would require alottt of enginering to it.

nothing is impossible my friend

if castle can make http://www.castlecreations.com/produ...der_micro.html
handle both brushed and brushless.. then we can make make a mod to the sidewinder and add a receiver unit to it and make it fit an xmod

taiwanesekid05 01-17-2010 04:08 PM

Another drop in crawler motor like DIYtuner did. Its a shame that he can't make them anymore, but if someone could expand upon that and make another drop in crawler motor, that would be awesome.

dontspamme 01-17-2010 04:21 PM

CF parts, control arms, towers, etc.. etc... First customer right here.

Second this idea.

Solid front or rear axles for either car or truck. Or some way to go between FWD, RWD, or AWD.

they already make brushed/brushless esc's. nothing new.

bosco72 01-17-2010 05:05 PM

fig out away to put ma-010 knuckles on so we have different degrees. With the servo idea i was looking at where the servo gears go carv the plastic out and find a servo to fit in there

but do they have one that has a receiver on it? that is small?

XMDrifter 01-17-2010 05:31 PM

no BL/B esc's have recievers on them. NONE. whether it be Castle or Novak, the esc is separate from the reciever. and futaba or hitec or spectrum are the main reveiver-makers
you'll only find integrated boards on cars like the mini-z and xmods

It's actually what he wants, all in one package. Which is a bit overkill IMO.

thnx for clearing it up for him :D

i guess fi you think bout it.. it would be overkill.. but then again.. still if it all fits...... would be perfect for not just xmods but any micro

lol 01-17-2010 06:24 PM

Well, there are several improvements I can think of needed for Gen 1.

Rear Cantilever Delete (done)
Lower COG
Li-Po mounting
A Solid chassis

Anything else? :\

TripleXmodder(akaXXX) 01-17-2010 06:26 PM

Some good stuff so far, well have to get into details of what's actually worth doing. Right now I'm at skateland...... I'll get back later.
