Battery cap upgrade
Well I guess it's about time I post this. If you read my "truth about caps" in electronics you will know that I stated the only way for a cap to increase performance is for one to be hooked up directly to the batteries.
This mod is quite simple if you have decent soldering skills. Simply buy a cap (the bigger the better) from rs (like 2 bucks) and solder the positive lead to the red battery connection at the board and the negative to the black battery connection at the board. The end result should look like this.. http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/DSC00361.jpg http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p...t/DSC00360.jpgWhat you will notice is an increase in acceleration off of the line and increased acceleration after coasting or braking. This will in NO WAY increase your top speed... |
ZX9BART,
Say if you used this, do you think heatshrinking the leads would be a good idea, as if they touched, won't the batteries short? And with lithium, heatshrinking the leads would be a good idea, there are micro caps that were sold on Performance Xmods, and now JDR, just more BS(JDR's is NOS Tank) . On PX, Mike stated it would get damaged if the voltage applied was over 5.5V, now how do you come to this conclusion, is it stated on the packaging of the capacitor? |
I didnt heatshrink and have been running it for close to a year. The cap I used is 24 (? cant remember) volt so how in the world could 5 volts harm it. The general rule is to use a cap with twice the rated voltage of what you will use. heatshrink would do no harm but the cap leads are plenty stiff. Malcolm drives it and his style is to bounce off of the corners, he says brakes are boring.

Just got little questions, can I use the one from the gen 1 motors? Would that be harmful to my Xmods, or is it fine? And how do I know which one is + or - on the cap? Noob questions... I suck at electronics.

http://www.xmodded.co.uk/shop/index....&productId=755 This has been sold for a long time, since I can remember. I think performancexmods had it. XI has the fake on-motor "turbo", though after my whole deal he changed the description to what is theoretically correct, so... can't get at that much anymore. |
the negaive lead is the shorter lead on any electronic componant of which corect polarities should be known, if you accidently snipped them both to the same size, then look for the highlighted area on the cap, its usually lighter but sometimes darker than the rest of the capacitors "wrapping" and often right above the neg. lead
look at this pic http://www.columbia.k12.mo.us/jjhs/T.../capacitor.jpg EDIT: looks like texan beat me to it...o well atleast i got a pic right...lol |

Check the link that I posted in your other cap thread. It has the whole shi-bang

I know this seems stupid, but can you or somebody show me a vide of the performance(not the speed, but how it works)??
Good upgrade though, whats the best cap to get(from Radio Shack)?? |
