'77 Jeep Cj-7 Renegade- **56k Killer**
first off, 56k: YOU'RE SCREWED.
Everyone else has to wait 5 minutes for the page to load :p :D Transfering everything from my jeep project (started on GSR forums a year ago): Quote:
http://static.filefront.com/images/p...x.thumb500.jpg http://static.filefront.com/images/p...p.thumb500.jpg http://static.filefront.com/images/p...l.thumb500.jpg mounting the stage1 motor wil require cutting a piece out of the chassis and having the motor sticking out of the bottom. ITS ALIVE!! ... Well, almost. I finally got the guts to repair my fried board and now I have some electronics! I spent all day yesterday and today repairing, installing, and testing the new PCB. I also mounted the hitec HS-55 servo so it has tons of crawling torque. As a bonus: I fitted it with 5 1/4 aaa cells at 120mah each (5-10 min runtime with the hs-55 drive servo. low amperage ^_^). Some how, I managed to cram all this in minus the fine details (antenna, seats, ect.), which I will get in soon. I have yet to buy some micro-deans and drive it from a distance! Enjoy thy pictures!!! :D http://img45.imageshack.us/img45/802...ralive1jx9.jpg http://img45.imageshack.us/img45/802...ralive2pt8.jpg http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/3...ralive3ks0.jpg http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/1...ralive4sw1.jpg http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/4...ralive5ui1.jpg http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/8...ralive6vq4.jpg http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/5...ralive7vq8.jpg Please excuse my poor pictures, I was in a hurry because I still have homework to do! :( The batteries lasted way longer than I expected! With charged batteries, I drove it for 35 mins, with energy to spare! I think I could get 10 more minutes off of it if I kept driving it, and it only takes less than 5 mins to charge! :D Now that I got the vital components in, now I just need to work on the finish. Here's a video to see how it performs:
Not much of an update, but I got the MR-01 board mounted vertically and the batteries moved. It may look un-realistic now, but when I add the dashboard, the roll cage, and hide the switches and plugs underneath the hood, most people would hardly notice the interior and will be staring at the rest of the truck. Anyway, here are the pics: http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/6191/jeep1011gy0.jpg http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/6229/jeep1012vj8.jpg http://img139.imageshack.us/img139/4923/jeep1013fh8.jpg I'm still working on it... Wow it's been a long time since I updated this thread. Anyway, about a month ago I primed the jeep body. Then I just gathered up ideas to improve the chassis (space wise). Today I made a more "roomy" and neat chassis plate out of ABS plastic. It uses a larger gear from a diff. replacement set my dad had (from a Tamiya 4wd Racer?) and a stock mini-z motor for more speed (hopefully 100 times faster), while maintaining torque to get over most obstacles. I then sanded it down, and installed ball-bearings. I'm planning to use a custom saddle pack out of two micro-t/dt batteries (or just one pack if I don't have room). Pics: http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/9...date104ro8.jpg New chassis plate http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/6...date101dk9.jpg Old one http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/6...date102nk8.jpg New and old together (note edge & surface quality differences) http://img172.imageshack.us/img172/5...date105jn0.jpg New and old motors http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/4...date103gy0.jpg I'm going to use this styrene scale diamond plate I have on the bottom and sides of the main plate to fill the gap and look more scale. So, what do you guys think so far? I made a motor mount and improved the swivel thingy today. Motor mount, again, is made out of old gen1 parts (o so useful :) ). The swivel (gen1 motor mount) I made adjustableby threading a hole I made and putting a screw in it (works better than fixed styrene, and looks cool 8) ). The rest of my time was wasted by making an rc4wd type gear reduction unit, just for fun (evo truck parts). Motor mount: http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/2...date109vv8.jpg http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/7...date110ov6.jpg Swivel (fuzzy pics, sorry) http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/6...date107bs4.jpg http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/9...date108qi9.jpg Gearbox I wasted so much time on http://img245.imageshack.us/img245/3...date106ng1.jpg My apologies for the crappy pics. It's hard to get good lighting inside when it's dark out. **END OF TRANSFER** **UPDATE!!! (real one): I wasn't liking the torque from the 180 motor. I switched back to the servo and took xmodification's advice. It took FOREVER to make/set up a jig to get the servo horn on and drill a larger hole in the pinion. I think the bigger gear was a 48t or 60t and I know the small one is a 12t, so it should go about 4x (or more) faster. Anyway, here's what I got so far: http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/3...servo21pz3.jpg http://img145.imageshack.us/img145/1...servo22dc5.jpg I already test-drove it.... it has enough torque and speed to do whatever I want :D There's also enough room to make some sort of interior! http://www.beatyourtruck.com/forum/i...s/crazyhf1.gif Now go crazy. |
lools good, is it any faster than in the first vid???
|
Yeah, its about 4-5 times faster. I changed the gearing and setup (its going to be a scale crawler.... lol).
|
sweet stuff hope it comes out great in the end!!!! keep everyone updated eh???
|
Looking great, Custom. :)
|
Nice work on getting everything in place so neatly! Are you going to use those small batteries that you had before? If you do you could raise the board and put them underneath of it - I think it will still leave some sort of room for a mock interior too. Here's a suggestion: maybe you could also cover up the electonics and do the interior like from the dash up (similar to what I did for my covertible camaro and G35)- you might have to glue the door on and then they'll be able to see rthe mock interior through the windows.

wow
thats awesome like how much total time did u put into it |
sweet man! i remember looking at your videos or its coming together. i really love how you laid every thing out, it looks very professional. so you never used the mr-01 diff? but you should lock the trucks difs for better traction.
|
Freaking Another God!!!!! Amazing!!!!
|
dude, that thing i sick, i love it, but why did you use 2 jeep kits? just wondering, but yeah, u should enter that in the comp when ur done.
|
ford man lol read the box dude its a 2in1 kit
|
real nice man, your hard work paid off, that black color on the jeep looks so good too leave it the way it is, do you have room for any lights?
|
nice project, looks good, I wanted to make one of these but I wouldn't have put it on a custom chassis, would it have fit on a truck chassis?

This is a really clean looking install so far, right on CUSTOM. Good to see you still in this ish too. |
Thanks everyone! Nothing new. I didn't have time to work on it today, but I will tomorrow. In the meantime, here are some teasers:
http://img385.imageshack.us/img385/7...teaser1ud1.jpg http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/5...teaser2qe7.jpg Also, the stuff I will use to make it scale-er http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/3...teaser3xj5.jpg Yup. 1/24th scale diamond plate. I'm also going to be making other little things with the material I used to make the roll bar. See ya tomorrow! :p |
Great project so far, very cool stuff.
|
Very cool man! Really like what you've done with that.....
|
You guys have no idea how long it takes to fabricate roll cages, or do you?
http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/107/rollcage1jp9.jpg The "iffy" diamond plate panels. Ya or nay? http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/1...llcage2tm5.jpg Tire rack thing.... thoughts? http://img511.imageshack.us/img511/1...llcage3ry2.jpg No video yet, I still have to tweak the drivetrain. Until then, what do you think? Keep or trash the pannels, skid-bar? (whatever you wana call it), Winch? Please help me out here! |
i say keep them but get some pics of it in better light so that we can see if there is a realistic look to those panels agaist the black, and i cant really tell if its gloss or flat witch is it??? i think that a gloss would go better with the planels imo
