Anyhow, I could be wrong.. Jason, this is amazing man! Just calm ok? I don't want to see you get burned out and lose your touch on this stuff. Tom. |
no bungee cords? :(
it looks like the jean patches u get to fill in the holes in your jeans from that one website |
WOW! those tires are HUGE! They are like 49"s. SO EPIC
|
Looks great man! If I'm ever out in that part of NY, we'll have to crawl! Those Rok Lox are a must for me, imo they look much better than the Rock Crushers. How hard were the bead locks to install onto the tires, I've heard many horror stories on RCC on installing them!

ive also heard horror stories, but then thought "these people have probably never worked on a micro til now" |
Thanks for everyone's comments. The cargo bags are made out of jeans. The ESC, motor and transmission are hiding right under it. Those Rox Lox are huge, when suspension are fully compressed, I only have about 0.5mm clearance between the tires and the wheel well. As for the steel bead lock rims, they aren't that hard to install, but sometimes those tiny screws and nuts can get really annoying. 1 thing I hate about the the rims is that the screws are too close to each other, made it kinda hard to put the lug nuts on, and wish the rims are a little bit smaller. But other than that, they are great!
Update: Outdoor pics and a short video! http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/P8130167.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/P8130169.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/P8130170.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/P8130171.jpg Just a pic to show how soft those tires are. http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/P8130172.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/P8130173.jpg And a short video.

Looks good, nice vid too. Also seems like you need a bit more traction.

Update: It's been one...two...three...four months. I had a great time with this Hilux, took it to do all kind of extreme off-roading I can think of.
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PB100764.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PB100766.jpg Recently I did something to it and broke the frame...:uhoh: http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC030902.jpg So guess its time for a re-build! Looking through my model kit junkyard and found an 4Runner and older model Hilux chassis. http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC030903.jpg I picked the 4Runner chassis to work with because it have a longer wheelbase and almsot line up with this Hilux double cab. http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC040904.jpg First thing I did was chopped off the rear wheel well, so the bed can sit flush on the chassis. http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC040905.jpg Then I got rid of the transmission so the front axle will have more clearance. For the front suspension, I borrowed an idea off bubbles_bizzo from Scale4x4. Using the model kit shocks and turn it into a functional shocks. http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC040906.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC040907.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC040908.jpg Even though the rear wheel well is chopped, but it still doesn't clear the wheels. http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC040909.jpg So I had to trim it up a bit more to get it line up with the bed's wheel wells. http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC050910.jpg Got the bed mounted to the chassis. http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC050911.jpg Here are some rims I'm planning on using for this truck. They are Volks Racing TE37 off the Mini-Z NSX AutoScale. Have been racing Mini-Z using those rims, so they aren't in perfect condition. http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC050913.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC050914.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC050915.jpg Here's a step by step on how I got those Mini-Z rims to fit on the LMC axle. http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC050916.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC050917.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC050918.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC050920.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC050921.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC050923.jpg I also installed a Mini-Z AWD spings in the front shocks to get a little damping. http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC050922.jpg After the TE37 got primed. http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC050924.jpg Those TE37 are very nice rims, but IMO they just aren't the perfect match for the Super Swampers. So I choose some Aoshima rims, those rims still ain't what I'm really looking for, but they seems to be a better fit with those tires, so they will do for now. (I used the same concept to mount those rims as I did with the Mini-Z rims.) http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC050925.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC060926.jpg Last but not least. Got the body mounted. http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC060937.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC060936.jpg That's it for now, stay tune for more updates. :bigwink: |

Update: Got the ball hitch mounted and picked up some rims from J-Milz, would be perfect if I have all four of those steelie style rims. http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC090648.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC090649.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC090650.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC090651.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC090653.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC090654.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC090656.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC110657.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC110659.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC110662.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/PC110663.jpg |
Update: Thank you Jamil, now I've a complete set of 4 steelies style rims! :D
http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/P1030663.jpg Got the bed painted. It might looks like the gun metal paint I used on Color0's GT-R, the paint I used on my Hilux is light gun metal. Not much difference though. http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/P1110662.jpg Old decals didn't go on so smoothly. http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/P1110663.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/P1110664.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/P1110665.jpg As I was about to get the tail gate re-install, I found that one of the supporting tabs was missing... http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/P1110667.jpg So I go ahead and chopped off the tab on the other side. http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/P1110668.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/P1110669.jpg Make a new supporting piece from a paper clip and glue it directly to the bottom of the tail gate. http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/P1110670.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/P1120671.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/P1120672.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/P1120673.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/P1120674.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/k...r/P1120676.jpg |
