Look here Losi Micro H1 crawler

I put this together a month ago but i've left it alone since then. it was originaly a micro dessert truck, but i didn't really like the body and its still in perrfect shape since july when i bought it...anywho fpr this 'project' i had to lengthen the chassis by 39mm i used circut board for that, and took of the motor and that silver plate that holds, i replaced it with a gear box from another crapy RC b/c this body was heavier i had to out some spacers between the springs and the top of the shock, unfortuneatley my camera ran out of room so i only got five pics for now. i'd like to make it all wheel drive but that will be tough, bigger tires would also be nice but i have to change the whole wheel; for the time being i'm fine with 2wd and the wheels cuz it looks like a stock H1 its a sorta crawler right now but w/e heres the pictures i promised

its dark grey and conicidently the same color of the transmitter

i have to still wire the lights up
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/m...T/P1010045.jpg

backend springs need biggerspacers the backs too low
http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/m...T/P1010046.jpg

Extended chassis

http://i297.photobucket.com/albums/m...T/P1010047.jpg

i try not to run it two hard cuz the micro transmission is crap (imo) the gears strip so eaily i had switch one like a week after i bought it, it looked like a disk with a hole in it

comments welcome!

Looks nice, I really like the body. Looks like it sits kind of low though.

You know, I thought that too, but in all reality, real-life H1s ride low, but yeah the rear could use some raising.

Very cool crawler, maybe upgrade your transmission to aluminum?

theoriganalRiD3R1967 02-08-2009 02:12 AM

thanks for the comments guys

i need to add bigger spacers in the back to raise it up more, and as for the aluminum gearbox do you know if the gears are aluminum cuz if its just the transmission box, i won't buy it , but aluminium gears would make a bit of a difference

greenday 02-08-2009 02:28 PM

IDK to be honest, never fooled with them, but i presume someone makes them, probably even LOSI themselves. Are your diff(s) locked? (I dont remeber if those are 4wd or not) How is 2wd if it is only 2wd?

theoriganalRiD3R1967 02-08-2009 03:23 PM

i've seen aluminum gear boxes online but i don't think losi makes them, they were 15 bucks, but if i ever make this 4wd it wont have that tranny on their, just a gear box and shaft driven drive train hopefully articulation too

the only sell them in two whell drive, on line i'v seen one that was converted to frontwheel drive but thats still 2 wheels only, no diffs are not locked, but if i'm stuck with 2wd forever i might end up glue ing it so its locked i have some spare gears so if ever wanted to i could go back and forth...two wheel drive is not bad, it can take some pretty steep inclines but crawling upwards is almost impossible with rwd thats why i don't do too much with it, that and cuz i'm afraid of stripping the tranny again ,i'd like to raise it some too

oh one more thing before i had switched and added this gearbox, with a tiny motor, about half the size of the stock motor, the battery ony lasted like ten minutes, wiht the gear box i added, i got a good hour out of it at constant power, not like great for the first five, good for the next two so so for another two minutes and then blah for the last minute of ten minute battery life with the stock motor

heres a couple of pics, i raised the rear end of the truck so thats the first one and the second one is beside my bimmer project the link to its build thread is in my sig

Looks a lot better now that the back end is raised up equal to the front.
I like it. ;)

theoriganalRiD3R1967 02-09-2009 11:09 PM

thank you, its a little lopsided though, i have to make a proper rear mount, i just need some sort of tube, i'll have to look for something that'll work

theoriganalRiD3R1967 02-10-2009 07:16 PM

Sorry i'm double posting

a few sort of updates, heres my truck with some accesories i made for it in july

in this pick you can see the roof rack i hand made

theoriganalRiD3R1967 02-12-2009 10:47 PM

i've figured out a way to make it allwheel drive, unfortunatley i won't be the first
http://bitpimps.lixlink.com/pages/ph...p?f=59&t=10259
but, maybe the first with an awd DT, with articulation, and a crawler

it'll be shaft driven, don't want to spend a lot on parts cuz this is quite risky, and if i end up with a butchered DT i'd like some cash to buy something else, so the total budget will be about ten bucks, mostly cuz i don't need any thing but the dog bones left and right, and the things the dogbones are turned by, and what they turn, shaft and gears will be old lego peices, cuz they're available, and i don't know where to look for gears this size, not only are they cheap, they have a pretty solid construction

any thoughts?

theoriganalRiD3R1967 07-16-2010 01:31 AM

Its been over a year but this project is nearly done, i've spent time on it for a couple of weeks. Its about 50/50 custom lots of the parts are stock Losi ones and the rest it chopped styrene, some acrylic and w/e legos made of (abs i think), exucuse the shadows in som eof the pictures please

Glad to see some progress on it. Keep up the work! :bigwink:

theoriganalRiD3R1967 07-18-2010 02:18 AM

I did some more work on this one, I built a box for the drving gearbox and and secured the drive shaft and the both gears mesh nicely -for me thats a first-. Both the servo and gear box are now attached to the main completed portion. I still need put in the drive gears, the glue I used to hold them together split but I've dealt with that here are some pics, o and the rear 'axel' was accisedently damaged beyond repair so im rebuilding that, its not all bad though the previous one didn't allow enough travel for the rear, arm things. The steering might also cause me some problems, I don't know where to put in the tie-bar but I have an idea, that unfortunataley means more work though, I'd have a cut out a huge section of plastic on the underside of the chassis so it can cross underneath the drive shaft

Thanks for the comments,
I only have a small update today most of the progress is just a mock up and it barely funtions, i added a tiebar bur i dont think its the final one i also switched my rive gears for more setup with more torque. After powering it up its clear that the truck will be super slow but i'm glad because with bigger wheels ill have more speed and hopefully still ample torque.

Yes I would change the tie rod, looks like it could rub the wheels.

theoriganalRiD3R1967 07-18-2010 10:53 PM

Ya that tie-bar is layered sheets of like lexan type stuff, it doesnt seem to rub the wheels (u can see in the first n second pic theres room) but b4 this is fininshed its corners wud be rounded out and i have to make room to accomidate the area where it'd go as the suspention travels

theoriganalRiD3R1967 07-20-2010 01:10 AM

I got a bit done today i want to finish this one the chassis tonight or early tomorrow, i rebuilt the bach gear housing and it seems like it'll work, no problems like the last one, i do however have to correct the suspesion, the crazy angel its on now doesnt allow for any travel at all, but ill fix that once im donethe rest of it, the dogbones r a lil losse at b/c of the distance bettween the wheel stubs and the frame so i fixed it by adding some really tiny red beads so to keep the dogbones from falling to far into the axelstub and consequently falling right out of the upper 'thingy'
