which wing do you like better? (i like the black one)
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...2/DSC07830.jpg
this is gonna be a drift car. it works well with just the drift kit but when you add the atomic awd stock motor, it's bad ***. i might post a vid up later.

i'm planning to do a two-tone paint job. black on top and red on the bottom.

suggestions are welcome.

how long should i wait before i start masking to put the black paint on? i'm thinking about a week

xmodzracer 03-09-2009 06:34 PM

a week would be good. make sure it gets sunlight too. that helps it dry properly.

XmodzICON82 03-09-2009 06:35 PM

just wait a couple of days til it's all dry and cured...then mask off and paint the black...just a suggestion, when i do a two tone i usually follow a line on the car and paint which ever half one color, wait til it's cured then mask and paint the other color...that way the lines from the paint match perfectly...but good job on what you have done already....i like the black wing as well...

atleast 3/4 hours unless u have a heat source like a space heater sit the car by it and turn it up to 80 and leve it there for about an hour and a half and it should be dry enough to mask... test it in a inconspicuous place tho su u can see if its dry enough not to ruin the paint.. and i like the white wong better the one u had on the table...

thats how i painted my GTr and its flawless no finger prints no peeling nothing...

BulletsRain 03-09-2009 07:32 PM

If the paint is enamel (Which I believe your red paint is) don't use a heater to dry it. If it is waterbased it will be okay to dry with a heater.

Kaze 03-09-2009 07:53 PM

if you want to be really sure of it, wait 1 week so its fully cured and its guaranteed that nothing will stick on it,but you have to let it sit and protect it well. Otherwise a couple days out in the sun or an hour or so out in the sun.

Personally, it looks amazing single tone, I'm assuming you're doing a black upper tone? Id leave it this way, if anything repaint the lower parts like the skirts and front/rear lips/decks back to black or gun metal.

Looking good though, real good...

SkysTheLimit 03-09-2009 07:57 PM

+1 on Kaze's comment

It looks fantastic as red. Nice and even shoot, great coverage and shiny too! Great job man.
Reshoot the gun skirts and gloss black window trim and I think you'll have a killer ride.
I would ditch both wings and go with the stock wing.

Besides, if you leave it red you'll be beating both Kaze and I at the red GT-R.

nice *****??? lol

the black spoiler is on now but i like the white one. i'm gonna paint it black and put it on to see how it looks.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...2/DSC07873.jpg
i promise the next pics will have a better background. these were taken on my bathroom floor. lol
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...2/DSC07875.jpg
i turned the flash on in this pic. and it doesn't look that bad.
http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...2/DSC07876.jpg
everything that is/was gunmetal is gonna be black (and yes i'm still doing the two tone.)

bestdragon2001 03-10-2009 08:58 PM

If you go with one of those wings then go with the white one, looks better imo, and also I think the paint looks great the way it is.

WhiteCharisma 03-11-2009 08:30 PM

i think if you go with the white wing and paint it black, then it'd look real nice! great work so far, i used the same paint and i didnt get results like you did lol very smooth looking and the masking looks perfect. good job!

fieldfairy2 03-12-2009 08:35 PM

Really nice paint job! I say stick with red and the sideskirts/front lip, black or gun metal, like kaze and Skysthelimit. I think the white wing would look better black. Lower the wing though, it looks weird when it is up so high. AS for the headlights i would tint the lenses or paint the back ground are of the head light black(not the lense) and that would be good. Just some suggestions. Great work!

FloydfanYodaman 03-12-2009 09:04 PM

looks very nice... i say go with the white wing, a little lower and paint it the red...leave it all red and add black wheels...just my .02...

matt sti 03-12-2009 09:13 PM

i have decided to not do the two tone. but im still gonna paint the white wing black or red??? i can't decide but im leaning more toward black. and i plan to paint the trim black. and should i paint the mirrors black or red?

SkylineLvr 03-13-2009 06:04 AM

I would say black wing and black mirrors. Just a suggestion, if you change your mind and go back to the 2 tone idea, or when you paint the side skirts. Rub the sticky side of the tape you are using across your pant leg a couple times, don't do it too hard or too many times. You want a little lint to stick to the tape. It will still stick to the paint, but has a less of a chance of peeling paint when you pull the tape off. I used to work at a body shop and that was a trick I learned from some of the old timers. Great job so far. I really like it. I've always been a fan of red Skylines.

matt sti 03-19-2009 09:32 PM

it is almost finished!!? i did the two tone. sorry about the crappy pics, the camera battery was about to die and i used the flash. so, on to the pics

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...2/DSC07936.jpg

the paint looks a little jacked up in this pic but it's just the lighting.

http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...2/DSC07938.jpg

your thoughts???

SkylineLvr 03-19-2009 09:36 PM

Looks nice, but I think I would have just left it red w/ the black on the bottom trim. Just my opinion though

Bananabrain 03-19-2009 10:20 PM

Looks good from the pics even though you used two different paints, black spray paint & Red testors but hey if it works it works.

BulletsRain 03-19-2009 11:10 PM

Looks pretty sweet man. Good job. :bigwink:

Rovonic 03-21-2009 08:46 PM

Dang, how did you do such a good paint job on the black using spray paint, usually there are bubbles and other weird things.
