is it possible....

To use 1:1 scale long life engine oil in a nitro engine?

i am asking this question because i have ran out of nitro car oil and im rebuilding a engine. i also have multi perpose '3 in one' oil that is thinner and feels just like the nitro oil.

Certainly not suggested. Even gas/oil engines, like weed wackers/etc, don't use straight "oil," they're mixed with a certain amount of gasoline. After run oil, to my knowledge, isn't straight oil, either. You may just want to hold out and buy a bit of approved after oil from your LHS.

thanks but after reading up it says 3 in one make a engine lubricant but the normal 3 in one oil is used for muti perpose and can be used for motor bike engines or smaller and has no petrol mixed with the oil. it acctually says oils, lubricates and prevents rust.

i also tested it on a spare pro 12 engine i had and it seamed to work fine, after running it for about 1 hour and kept pushing throttle i took it apart and the oil was still there and there had been no damage done to the engine.

ok so im a little unclear on what your useing the oil for... pre-lube as to prevent any dry starts or what? if its just to lube up parts as your putting the motor back together i cants see why not, as long as it will last till you run the nitro oil/fuel mix in it i dont see any problems

deckerz 08-06-2009 10:08 PM

ok thanks, im just putting the motor back together.

stang_racer 08-06-2009 11:26 PM

yeah it should be ALRIGHT, not the best, i would amost want to say assembley lube but i think it would almost be to heavy for such a small engine, but hey motor oil shouldnt hurt anything in there, well actually... what weight are you planning on useing?

deckerz 08-07-2009 11:32 AM

ok, its not actually motor oil but it says it can be used on engines to lube parts, its not as thick as motor oil, seems to move just as free as new engine and has loads of compresion.

stang_racer 08-07-2009 01:10 PM

well actually i was thinking that normal motor oil might be too thin, and not stay on the parts long enough

deckerz 08-07-2009 02:53 PM

ah right, the long life motor oil i tried before with another engine was to thick, had loads of compresion but was hard to turn the flywheel.

but as i said before this oil im using the 3 in one stuff i ran in a spare for 1 hour a kept touching the throttle and after i opened it up and the oil was still there so i dunno. Persides if the oil does were off i would know because the engine would just cut out am i right?

stang_racer 08-07-2009 03:30 PM

well if it does cut out theres a few things that could be wrong, now i havent run nitro for a yea5r but everythings still pretty fresh in my mind haha, but if it cuts out well oviously theres something wrong, ummm my only concern if i had just rebuilt it and it suddenly stopped would be are the internals ok, fist go threw the easy things to check, glow plug, fuel, idle, high speed needle low speed needle all those type of things, you pickin up what im puttin down here?

deckerz 08-07-2009 06:17 PM

yeah i have set up everything correctly, set the carb to factory settings.

its only a stock pro 12 engine anyway that i have 4 or 5 spares from spares repairs on ebay so i will check the engine once a month for 3 months just to see if the oil is still on the parts.

i know it works, just need to make sure it all keeps running smooth.

stang_racer 08-07-2009 09:30 PM

what have you got this motor in?

deckerz 08-08-2009 01:56 PM

thunder tiger ts4n that iv converted to rally so im going to have to get parts for a offroad engine for torque as offroads have alot more torque for ramps and stuff. but im only running it on loose gravel, uneven concrete slabs and a big grass area all in my street right now until i decide to enter a offroad comp for buggys and conversions.
