Project: Blackbird

ok thought i have always thought it would be fun to do a military theme project...so i found some decals and had an old RSX body with some extra bodykit pieces, found a set of appropriate wheels and the end of a can of paint and we have...

SR - 71 Blackbird inspired Acura RSX...

aka...the Stealth...

i hope you like it...

...the aviator wheels seemed to fit...flat black paint...shaved mirrors...wild kit...stealth headlights...taillights are in the works...red alloy clip en route...finally...i am torn as whether to put on the plane decals or not...overkill or just the right amount of detail...aargh!!!...input and comments welcome...remember WIP...thanks

those rims are really nice, i know what you mean about the decals, i guess it depends on the color, but i got a say its looks almost perfect right now, something does look unfinished, but you know when you can't put your finger on it, thats what i'm experiancing, sort of

i small thing i would have done different though might have been to leave the head light lenses clear, but the inside part (usaully chrome/silver) painted flat black again very nice, sick rims!

also spoiler looks nice, but not sure if its a little under par in accordance to the rest of the car your decision,

^^^^^IMO

FloydfanYodaman 03-31-2009 01:06 AM

truth be told the headlight lenses were messed up lenses from a previous overspray incident...so my only choice was to paint them...thought it gave them the bulletproof look...and i have gone back and forth between the mild and wild spoilers and went with the mild...for now...maybe something completely different is needed...maybe i can do a mock up of the decals and you can add .02 since we both seem to be thinking alike...thanks BTW

no problem, glad to help

i'd probably do the same with headlights, under those circumstances,

if you have lights planned for this car, (its up to for one cuz its your car, and second i';m split wondering whether its tupid and overkill or a nice touch)- but if you were to put a green led in the left and red led in the right, headlight 'slot' simalar to a planes' wings, you know star-board and port-side, i think the same goes for boats...it might just barley show through the black-idk it could look dumb or maybe cool too
any way i noticed that you didn't paint the windows flat black, which i can't stress enough IS THE WAY TO GO!, i hate it when someone paints an entire car flat black

did you lower this car?

PointDexter 03-31-2009 08:29 AM

I love the car btw, it reminds me of the cars from fast and furious when their like hijacking trucks lol, but enough digression, what kind of vinyls would you be putting on ? because depending on how big they are and like the color it wouldnt be overkill imo, the car looks amazing black but it would still lack that touch of "you" if that makes sense xD

mustanglover 03-31-2009 09:24 AM

that looks awesome man! you can never go wrong with flat black, Now put some homing missiles on the lower sides lol!

thought the same idea about the plane lights but IDK...still have a couple touch ups around the windows but its one of my better masking jobs...it is lowered and i forgot to mention on an evo chassis...thanks again

...its always so hard knowing when to put on those finishing touches or are they overkill...guess thats why they are WIP...

the decals are from the plane model kit...military graphics i guess...i will post up some pics of what i am thinking...thanks

...whoops double post...still trying to figure out the multi quote thing

sciontc333 03-31-2009 03:39 PM

that looks sick. i think you should paint the lip of the rims red and leave it alone after that

XMDrifter 03-31-2009 08:54 PM

i think you should put yellow and red pinstripes as like caution lines and stuf that military planes have on their panels.
but it's already awesome as it stands now.

bondo 03-31-2009 09:23 PM

i say screw the lenses and either remove them or make em flip up to reveal four tomahawk missiles.

as far as what it's missing, id say a couple of sick hood/roof scoops to immitate the blackbirds lines.

another thing that might go with the birds lines is to nip the spoiler off to make it three piece.
leave the uprights and wing between em then nip out the plastic between that and the fins, then glue the fins on at a slight inward angle.

all in all though this looks pretty **** promising.

good job.;)

theoriganalRiD3R1967 03-31-2009 10:27 PM

vents would be a nice touch, i refrained from suggesting it cuz now that the car is almost done, i'm 100% sure you don't want to rip it up to do body work, no headlight lenses might look alright...

xmodkidd33 03-31-2009 10:28 PM

Looks cool. A bit too simple, and it would have been nice if you had masked off the windows.

He did - there is a definite gloss to them compared to the rest of the body.

Nice work! Really cool.

for now the 'bulletproof/stealth' lenses will stay but i am contemplating all the options...thanks for all the input man i have really appreciated it

XMDrifter 03-31-2009 11:09 PM

4 more words to add:
gloss black panel rivets.

and yes, i have an uncanny ability to guess what people are thinking.

i like the shaved mirrors

i think that SR-71 style tail fins will look perfect on this thing, and maybe having the exhaust pipes coming out of the lisence plate area and just having no lisence plate at all. as few fins and frill as possible because the blackbird was totally smooth except for the stabilizers

theoriganalRiD3R1967 03-31-2009 11:47 PM

if you can et some tailpipes in this shape, and paint or detail them (i realize that its almost immpossible at this scale) it would blow my mind

no problem bro, more than happy to help, especially on a project this nice,

btw i saw a plane in the sky today and the green light is actually on the right not the left to correct one of my previous posts

XMDrifter 04-01-2009 12:55 AM

green is always on the starboard and red always on the port side

unless your coming INTO the channel.
then the bouy's are opposite..;)

theoriganalRiD3R1967 04-01-2009 01:44 AM

they color code the bouy's too?, i think/thought we were talking about the lights on the wings?

yes sir, in aquanotics you have a stern light wich is green is starboard and red is port.
this is to follow channels dredged into rivers.

when leaving a channel all is right.
your green bouy's should be on your starboard wich indicates that your in the channel and red is on the port.

coming into a channel and your stern light is reversed from the bouy's.
your starboard is going to match the red bouy's and vice versa.
