How-To: Another Truck Lift Tutorial

Hi,

So I have really been trying to get into Xmod trucks - mainly because nearly all of my Xmod cars are currently broken - so a few weeks back I got myself a Titan starter kit which I converted over to a blue F1-50 with the upgraded body parts which I then put all the RS parts into but it still didn't cut it as an off roader!

So I started thinking outside the box and looked through the How-To section of the forum, I did the getto swampers mod as posted by Sweed:

http://www.xmodsource.com/forum/showthread.php?t=8385

I was really impressed about how much more grip I got from the tires but then found that I could hardly drive an inch before the wheels got stuck, so I started sanding the inside of the truck down but it still just was not cutting it!!

I remember seeing on eBay a part you could buy called the Overland Lift Kit that gave the truck a crazy lift, I figured this was the easiest way for me to fix the problem of the tires rubbing but I couldn't find one to buy!

So again I went back to the How-To section and I looked at the lift modifications, there where a bunch of cool ones but I didn't have some of the parts required to do them, so I figured I would just wing it and write a tutorial as I went!

I am going to give credit where credit is due and say that is this tutorial is loosely based on some of the steps in the following sticked tutorial:

http://www.xmodsource.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3379

So thanks kuecker_dj09 for the inspiration - however your pictures now seem to be missing!

I am still working on making my version of the tutorial 100% complete and understandable, I also want to have a good set of step by step photos as some of the steps you need to see to do!

Hopefully though the following should get you to the same point as me:

1. First step is always the easiest! So unscrew the blue front body clip flip it over and screw it back in! The front of the truck is now lifted - cool!!

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...als/tl/tl2.jpg

2. Unscrew the grey rear clip from the blue body mount and put it to one side.

3. Unscrew the blue clip mounting point from the body shell.

4. Get 3 gen1 yellow wheel bearings and glue them over the screw holes of the blue piece that screws onto the body.

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...als/tl/tl4.jpg

5. On the grey body clip file down the little pointy bits of plastic that are used to line this up to the blue piece.

6. Take a gen1 yellow engine mount and glue it onto the top of the grey clip, this is what gives you the rear lift, you may also want to put a screw through this whilst the glue settles.

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...als/tl/tl5.jpg
http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...als/tl/tl6.jpg

7. When the glue is dry drill two holes through the top of the yellow engine mount, line it up on top of the blue mounting piece and continue to drill, this will give you holes through the yellow engine mount and the blue body mount that you can screw through to hold the while thing together.

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...als/tl/tl7.jpg

8. At this point you should have a tower like structure that will lift the truck by about an inch which luckily is that same height as the upside down from clip!

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...als/tl/tl8.jpg

9. Let the glue dry!

10. Whilst the glue is drying you need to find three long screws from a gen1 car - these are usually what holds the front and rear top deck plates in place, you are going to be using these as the new screws for putting the custom lift kit back into the truck.

http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/g...als/tl/tl3.jpg

11. Screw the custom lift back into place.

12. Mount the car back on the body - assuming that all you screw holes where in the right place and that the parts you glued went on straight it should be as snug as if this was a stock part!

What I ended up with was this:

If no one minds I will link to the tutorial as it is on my personal web site:

Let me know if you have any questions.

Next for the truck will be a 6-cell and then Super Swampers!

nice tut.

Stampedekid 06-23-2007 11:07 AM

nice..no...awesome tut! i will try that on my monster crawler.

Iche-1 06-23-2007 11:18 AM

anything using an upside down f-150 front clip will make the body too high. there are easy ways to do it and modify the front clip so you can have a more realistic looking/functional body lift.

Stampedekid 06-23-2007 11:20 AM

it really depends on the size of the tires

b-shizzle 06-23-2007 12:39 PM

i like it! that was a great idea i will try this on my next truck i get

I agree completely but the plan for my F-150 goes back to a childhood memory of an RC I used to have of the Big Foot Monster Truck! I want to put some big wheels on this sucker hence the height of the lift!

nice tut.. i did the same size body lift to my orange F-150 but i actually like how you did urs more it looks alot stronger than how i did it.... i did the same gen1 bushing spacer mod and then i just glued 2 rear clips together so its not as strong a connection point.

thanks NS350

Pictures are fixed! :)

I used it on my Titan. It looks good, but the Titan clip is smaller than the F-150.My body is tilted to the front more but still works great for eliminating tire rub.

pwned, go out to Radioshack, spend about $5 on some screws and nuts 2-56 size nuts and a pack of variety screws that fit those nuts ($1.99 each pack). Those works for body lifting. I've done it to my Hummer, Titan and F150

I am pretty sure they have it on eBay. Just search Xmod Off Road and you'll find one for 20-30 bucks.
