I have been thinking of getting one but i dont know how hard they are to build so is it really hard or it just takes a while?

I've never built one personally, but I can imagine that patience is a major bonus with building one of these, and paying extra attention to everything. Just take your time, read the instructions thoroughly and don't get frustrated.

It will take a little time, you probably could do it in a day if you stuck to it but I wouldn't recommend it.

Thanks Kevin, it took me a while just so I can afford the kit! The RTR version comes with a 27T motor, for sure that they are not super fast, but still have a nice amount of speed. The motor I ordered is a 45T, still waiting for it.

The hardest thing is to save up for all those expensive parts. Other than that, it's definitely not hard to build.

You are right about that! It's possible to build the whole kit in 1 day. I just took my time on it.

Lucky7 08-12-2011 10:17 AM

Lights really set it off. I ended up getting the Axial light kit but did debate the 3Racing set. Have not installed the turn signals since I was unsure where to put the rear ones but I like where you installed them so I think I may put mine there as well.

Dr. Kustom 08-19-2011 08:59 PM

Update: So I've been driving my SCX10 in the water/mud a lot recently...

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...0/P8170690.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...0/P8170697.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...0/P8170695.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...0/P8170692.jpg

And I think that it is time to take it apart and re-build it. So I've seen that people like to use marine grease inside the axles and tranny to prevent metal parts from rusting. Unfortunately, I couldn't find marine grease locally. Instead, I've picked up a Castrol multi-purpose chassis grease. I read through the label from the back, sounds similar to the purpose of the marine grease. So I decided to give it a try.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP0148-5.jpg

I've took the entire tranny and axles apart for clean up and re-lube with the Castrol grease.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP0143-4.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP0146-3.jpg

Here are some before and after compression pics.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...0/P8180701.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...0/P8180705.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...0/P8180711.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...0/P8180704.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...0/P8190702.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP0150-5.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP0149-4.jpg

When I took the front axle apart, it was a lot worst than what the rear axle looks like.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...0/P8180714.jpg

Rusty bearings.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...0/P8180715.jpg

So I took some sandpapers and cleaned up the rust as much as I can.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...0/P8180692.jpg

The bearings are looking like new again.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...0/P8180693.jpg

Also rebuild the motor.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...0/P8190695.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...0/P8190703.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...0/P8190697.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...0/P8190699.jpg

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...0/P8190700.jpg

After all the cleaning, it's like a new SCX10 again.

http://i1179.photobucket.com/albums/...IMGP0157-1.jpg

I bought my motor and ESC as a combo. It let you pick 35T/45T/55T, I picked 45T, it's a nice motor, very easy to maintenance. The motor have a lot of torque, but not too much speed, it's a slow walking pace. I'm looking to order the Cobalt Puller 7T motor once they are in stock.

Lucky7 08-23-2011 09:07 AM

The hobby shop I got my Honcho at only had Venom motors. I got a 55t and it works quite well but I have been thinking I would like a little more speed and have been looking at the 35t HH motors. Want something faster but still a scale trail truck speed.

The 35T are what most of the scaler guys use. It have a little more speed, won't be extremely fast.
