Didn't start after a few tries and had no time to waste, so got a ride with mum. Gonna go check it out later... Kinda depressing though... |
sounds like your battery might be extremely low. usually if its just a click its your battery

good plan. my battery in my teggy does that occasionally but after a quick charge it works just fine again. it mostly happens if i leave my gps on or my ipod plugged in.

Few things to check. 1) Put a volt meter to the battery before you start charging and post what it's at. 2) Attempt to jump start 3) If jump started, drive around for about 10 minutes. This will save you for later. 4) Put it on a slow charge over night and make sure the battery is topped off. 5) Put the volt meter back on, and turn on a high draw item, like the head lights. Now, sit back and watch your voltage. If the battery is good, you should not see it drop much at all. If the battery is bad, you'll see start to drop voltage rather fast, if your watching anything under 12.5 with in a few minutes, this is a good sign the battery is going out. 6) If the battery tests good, check and make sure no circuits are drawing power while the key is off. Amp, radio, just anything you've added. 7) If that's not the problem, and you have further starter problems, carry a hammer and give the starter a good ol' love tap or two if it refuses to crank over, and replace starter. |
if it's clicking then your battery or connections are bad...check the connections to make sure that they're clean and making good contact...your amp may well be pulling it down, my friend's 08 STI wouldn't want to start every morning until he disconnected his amp, weird stuff.

Starter is going out. Hammered on it for a bit and it started. Next two starts started right up (well first was a bit slow due to lack of fuel). Changing that tommorrow afternoon....
Fun stuff, I'll try to get some pictures of the process... |
great to hear it's fixed.

Since I move to college in a week, this thing needs to be able to make 500 mile long trips repeadedly and reliably. To fix the small (but annoying) radiator leak, we picked up a new radiator, hoses, and thermostat. The valve cover leaks around the spark plugs, so oil gets down there and it doesn't start sometimes. So new spark plugs, valve cover gasket, and new distributor rotor for good ridance. And it's oil change time.
I'm absolutely screwed. I leave for a week-long Alaska trip that I don't have time for tomorrow morning. The car is in pieces and the radiator is just barely in. Nothing else is done. I'm begging my dad to put the car together for me over the weekend while I'm gone, or I'll never leave in time to move in before classes start on the 29th. But here's some pictures of the parts and todays (despressingly little) progress. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...d/IMG_0486.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...sweed/5-29.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...sweed/1-38.jpg |
Drop it off here and I'll have it done in 5 minutes. All of us rednecks must pass NASCAR pitcrew training before we can graduate elementry school

Not really an update, but I'll have a real and proper update tonight, and several the next few weeks.
So, if/when I buy new rims and tires, here's what I plan on getting. ATS Classics, which are pretty popular with the VW crowd. I would get them in size 13x8" with a ET of about 20, I think. Car would sit 3/4" of an inch lower, plus the extra 3" or so I can lower the body after that. So, the car would pretty much be on the ground. I would be going from/to: 205/15/15 Yokohama S.Drives (23.1" x 8.4") 215/50/13 Sumitomo HTR 200 (21.6" x 8.6") http://users.telenet.be/johanbae/ima...ts_classic.gif Now, I'm not changing rims/tires anytime soon. These rims are kinda hard to find, and from looking on ebay, they're like $800, plus $200 in tires, plus mounting, balancing, and a alignment. So $1200 for new wheels/tires is kinda out of budget atm.. Would rather spend it on an alarm or quick release, or interior stuff. Speaking of interior stuff, I'm gonna be re-wrapping the headliner next week. Just gotta barrow a sowing maching and buy some carpet. Gonna roll my fenders in the rear tomorrow afternoon (via PVC Pipe) and paint some tidbits in the engine bay. http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...dTireSizes.jpg |
Bunch of pictures, old and new.
Car is going in for paint and body work on Friday, should be done in two weeks. Bodywork being done: -- Fenders installed, painted, rolled -- Hood Emblem Shaved -- Rear Squirter Shaved -- All dents filled and smoothed -- Full Respray including Door Jambs http://memimage.cardomain.com/ride_i...0002_large.jpghttp://memimage.cardomain.com/ride_i...0003_large.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.com/ride_i...0011_large.jpghttp://memimage.cardomain.com/ride_i...0008_large.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...d/DSC_0195.jpg http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...d/DSC_0195.jpg |
