I love this thread!

It makes me want my 85 Silverado back really bad.

Its looking really great. I think you should just keep those wheels you got on there right now and just restore them a bit. Thats freaking sweet that all of the outside trim pieces are still on, they are what came on it when you brought her home? Oh and another question, when your driving along can you take the key out of the ignition and it still drives and everything? I just wanted to know because my later model did that. I got a real kick out of that!

Its always awesome to look at this thread because I see so many of those trucks in my town and their all not in great shape.

nw~hummer 01-15-2009 10:53 PM

sick

texan_idiot25 01-15-2009 10:54 PM

The side trim is not correct for my truck. The upper trim is some universal stuff, and the lower trim is 88-97 trim.

Yup, I can pull the key out while running

My dad has been tearing apart the front suspension and getting the ball joints in and grabbing the parts needed this week while I'm at my mom's. Seat belts will go in this weekend. Speakers come in tomorrow and I'll wire up the head unit as well.

nah, you won't. Tex is as slow as his truck. =P jk. im ready to see what it looks like with the new rims on it and the grille touched up.

noturday 01-16-2009 10:56 AM

I knew headlights were an option, see, this truck didnt come with that option either. haha

would that truck have the correct rear bumper for your truck?
and does it say 4X4 on the back window?!

texan_idiot25 01-16-2009 01:14 PM

I can't remember if it had the correct bumper, but I think the 'burbs had different bumpers than the trucks.

It is a 4x4 'Burb though, how did you guess?

I won't bother with the rims yet until I can drive up to Tire-n-Wheel connection and see about tradding for the Ultra 50/51s.

BUT, the brakes should be together atleast lol.... WOrking, I dunno.

texan_idiot25 01-17-2009 08:34 PM

Back on it this weekend:

After ripping the god awful wiring that was in it, the new sony HU and Kenwood speakers go in. Onlinecarstereo FTMFW as far as speakers, those kenwoods are normally around 110-120 and I payed 68. Excellent speakers, and far better than the clarions they replace:

Mocking up the disk brakes, got the passenger side together:

And mocking up the seatbelts:

texan_idiot25 01-19-2009 04:43 PM

Disk brakes are close enough to done that I'm saying; The disk brakes are done! Just gotta toss in pads, pack the driverside bearings with grease (ran out last night) and bleed the system.

Big'n brakes

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...0/IMG_0487.jpg
Just threw my bling rim on for kicks.

Tossed in a manual choke since my carb is not meant for this engine and the choke just kinda did what it wanted.

Seat belts are 90% done. When I take it up to the dealership to tidy it up on the lifts some thick steel backing plates will be welded into the floor to help keep them from pulling out of the floor.
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...0/IMG_0493.jpg

And gave up on the old alternator and picked up a 90~ amp alternator, and it chaaaaaaarrrrgges now.

Conduet to clean up the wiring..

And woo! It's gettin' close. I really need this so I can go back to my job

You look like you could be saying "Hey little kid, want a ride in my big orange truck while I give you a bag of candy?"

SUPERSHELBY 01-19-2009 06:35 PM

xmoracer0 01-19-2009 09:11 PM

Little kids need not apply in this truck in south TX. It's a whole nother magnet. ;)

Next weekend it should be ready to make the 10 mile treck to the dealership for some final tidying up and inspection. :p

The beast, waits.

stang_racer 01-19-2009 10:20 PM

well tex because of you im going to be looking for ever for a set of 05 ford f150 seats for my 1990 f150! thanks for the insperation bud! and the trucks looking great too!

texan_idiot25 01-19-2009 11:32 PM

Just for warning, probably won't be anywhere near as easy as it was on my truck. GM has flat floor pans making mounting seats from newer trucks into my stripped down and simple old truck a fairly easy task. Ford has all sorts of wierd angles in their floor pans, making swaps much more difficult to finish. Maybe ask some ford guys what's possible before you put down on a set of seats. ;)

Don't let my next addition influence you too much. It was purely used for a radiator overflow bottle, I swear.

Today:

Fab'd up a new bracket for the kick down cable. Engine and drive train are 100%

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...0/DSC00102.jpg
Began welding some 1/8th in steel plating to back up all the seat and seat belt bolts. With the floor and the 1/8th in steel body washer backing it, there's close to 1/2-2/3 in worth of steel backing all my bolts. Needless to say my *** is staying put in a wreck. It's much more solid than the factory mounts.

Have new(er) tires mounted half way on the rims and balanced, but dismounted the top bead to paint the wheels. The other two wheels get the new(er) tiers and mounted/balanced later this week. All painted Rust-oleum semi-gloss black:

They'll look nice and mean when on the ground...

My tierod sleeves come in tomorrow. And with that, the truck will be ready for this weekend, if all goes well, it shall hit the streets.
:demon:

spitfire 01-25-2009 09:49 PM

i love those rims. fit the truck perfect. good job so far man!

suicide_star 01-25-2009 10:02 PM

the wheels came out good, i like em. sooo...what we gonna do about those rocker panels?

texan_idiot25 01-25-2009 10:04 PM

I forgot that I selected welding class this semester. We have to do a big project at the end of the year. Will try and arrange a way to keep the truck in autotech and just roll it over to the Ag shop during that and weld **** up.

I could care less about the rocker panels though. Passenger A-pillar will be a helluva adventure, not sure how I'm going to go about it.

clintr79 01-25-2009 10:04 PM

That is the best overflow bottle i ever seen it is one of my favorite beers
